The MISHN Assessment

Know the move
before you fund the work.

The MISHN Assessment helps leaders understand a consequential business problem, evaluate the available evidence, and decide what to build, change, delay, or stop.

It begins with a working conversation, not a standard checklist. MISHN may arrive with outside-in observations, or your team may bring the problem. Together, we define the decision and the investigation it requires.

When to start

Use the assessment when the cost of acting on the wrong explanation is high.

Start here when:

  • Revenue, demand, margin, or customer behavior changed and the reason is unclear
  • Leadership is considering a website, platform, campaign, market entry, or repositioning
  • Different teams have different explanations for the same problem
  • A previous strategy or build did not produce the expected change
  • You need an outside-in view before committing more budget
  • You know the objective but do not yet know which capabilities or sequence it requires
Category intelligence

Bring the outside signals into one decision.

Category intelligence combines the external signals surrounding a business into a view leadership can use. Depending on the question, MISHN may examine competitors, buyer behavior, demand, search, AI answers, technology, customer experience, marketing, and brand.

The purpose is not to produce more research. It is to determine which action the evidence supports.

What we may examine.

7 disciplines

Competitors and category movement

How competitors position themselves, what they offer, how they prove it, where they appear, and which moves could change buyer expectations.

Demand and search

What buyers search for, which questions signal intent, where demand appears to be moving, and which gaps deserve investigation.

Buyer behavior

How people define the problem, what they compare, which risks delay action, and what creates enough confidence to choose.

AI visibility

How relevant AI systems describe the category, which companies they cite or recommend, and which public signals may be shaping those answers.

Technology and operations

Whether the current platform, CRM, data, workflows, and integrations support the objective or limit it.

Customer experience

Where customers encounter friction across discovery, evaluation, purchase, onboarding, service, and retention.

Demand and brand

Whether the market can find, understand, and distinguish the company, and whether the current message supports the decision.

How the assessment works.

  1. Working call

We review what MISHN sees, hear what your team is experiencing, and clarify the decision.

  2. Agreed scope

We confirm the question, evidence, participants, timing, deliverables, and assumptions before the investigation begins.

  3. Tailored investigation

We gather and analyze the evidence most likely to change the decision. The depth and disciplines vary with the problem.

  4. Strategy and leadership readout

We explain the findings, recommendation, priorities, dependencies, and tradeoffs so leadership can test the plan before acting.

  5. Agreed next move

You may stop with the assessment, assign the plan internally, bring in another partner, or continue with MISHN.

What you receive

A decision your team can act on.

You leave with a clearer answer, defined priorities, and an agreed next step.

Depending on the agreed scope, the assessment can include:

  • A clear statement of the decision being evaluated
  • A written diagnosis and the evidence behind it
  • Relevant category, competitor, demand, buyer, AI visibility, technology, customer experience, marketing, or brand analysis
  • A strategy with priorities and an order of action
  • Recommendations on what to build, change, delay, or stop
  • The assumptions, dependencies, and tradeoffs behind the recommendation
  • A leadership readout and working discussion
  • An execution scope when MISHN is asked to continue

What can happen next.

Decide and stop

The assessment gives leadership the answer it needs without automatically creating another project.

Put the plan into your team's hands

Your organization uses the findings and priorities to direct the next stage of work.

Bring MISHN into execution

MISHN works alongside leadership as a fractional strategy and execution team or takes ownership of the agreed work on your behalf.
